प्रिसिस क्या है? (Precis kya hai?)
Precis एक दिये गये Paragraph का संक्षेपीकरण हैं। इसे अपने स्वयं के शब्दों में एक निर्धारित Word Limit के अंदर दिये गये Instructions के अनुसार लिखा जाता हैं।
Precis Writing हमें यह अभ्यास कराता हैं कि हम किसी और के written words को अत्यंत ध्यानपूर्वक पढ़ें और फिर उसके Relevant Points को अपने शब्दों में व्यक्त करें ऐसी Skill आजकल की तीव्र गति की जिंदगी में Acquire करना अत्यंत आवश्यक है क्योंकि यह हमें Brief व Concise रूप से अभिव्यक्ति का प्रशिक्षण देता है।
Precis परीक्षा में क्यों पूछा जाता है?
Basic Objectives Precis writing हमारे following skills को test करता है।

Precis कैसे लिखें? (How to Write a Precis)
- Instructions को carefully पढ़िये ।
- यह सुनिश्चित करिये कि क्या करने को कहा गया है।
- Passage को general idea लेने के लिए।
- दिये गये questions को ध्यान में रखते हुए passage को दोबारा thoroughly पढ़िये ।
- Relevant points को note कीजिये।
- Passage को quickly पढ़कर यह ensure कीजिए कि सारे essential facts include कर लिए गये है।
- अपने विचारों को व्यक्त करने से बचिये ।
- First draft अपने words में लिखिये और words को count कीजिये।
- Precis को Reported speech (indirect narration) में लिखिये।
- Past tense का प्रयोग कीजिए।
- Draft को check करके final copy बनाइये।
- Final copy को carefully पढ़कर errors को remove कीजिए।
- यदि कोई शब्द सीमा नहीं दी गई है तो precis की ideal length दिये गये passage की one third होनी चाहिये।
- किसी word, phrase या clause के रूप में precis का title दीजिये।

Read the passage carefully and write down precise in about 75 words:
For one thing, from the very beginning, Gandhi insisted upon identifying his life with the lives of the great masses of India. There had been champions of Indian from the Indian masses. They were men who had been educated in the westem Independence before Gandhi. He was not the first but these men were far separated world, who wore western clothes, who insisted upon talking in the English lan guage, and between these westernized Indians and the Indian people there was a vast gulf that was never bridged. Then Gandhi came along and he identified himself with the people just as they were. This was the reason why he insisted upon wearing the loin cloth. For years, in the western world, people simply could not understand why Gandhi did that grotesque thing. But this Gandhi did deliberately as a symbol of his faith and life. Since unnumbered millions of Indians could wear nothing but the loincloth, he would wear that lioncloth himself, that he might iden tify himself the more closely with the masses of men and women whom he could serve.
Precis: From the very beginning Gandhi associated himself with the Indian masses but the earlier leaders of the independence movement could not do so. It was due to their western education, clothes and insistence on speaking English. Gandhi was different from these leaders. Since most Indians could wear only loin cloth, he too did so. Thus, he completely identified himself with the Indian masses.
